We begin with a detailed in-home assessment. Our technician walks through your home with you to understand square footage, ceiling height, window placement, insulation, and the layout that affects cooling performance. We ask about your budget, existing ductwork condition, any zones you want to cool separately, and your typical occupancy patterns. This step ensures we recommend equipment that fits your home — not oversized equipment that wastes money or undersized systems that leave you uncomfortable.
During this visit, we also inspect your attic and basement to understand where the indoor unit will go, check whether your electrical panel can handle the new system, and ask about any past cooling issues (hot bedrooms, temperature swings, etc.). All of this data feeds into our equipment recommendation.
Once you approve the estimate, we order your new system and coordinate delivery with our suppliers. We only install EPA-approved, energy-efficient equipment — typically SEER2 14 or higher, meaning your new system will save you money on cooling costs compared to older units. Our preferred brands (Heil and Fujitsu) come with excellent warranties and parts availability in Lancaster County. Before ordering, we confirm every detail with you: exact brand and model, efficiency rating, indoor unit location, outdoor pad requirements, and any ductwork upgrades. This prevents surprises when the truck shows up.
On installation day, our crew arrives with all tools, materials, and EPA-certified refrigerant recovery equipment. We start by safely recovering refrigerant from your old unit (required by EPA law under the Clean Air Act) and disconnecting the outdoor and indoor components. This process takes care and proper equipment — old refrigerants like R-22 are increasingly expensive to recover and must never be vented to the atmosphere. Old equipment is disposed of responsibly through our recycling partners. The process is clean — we protect your landscaping and take precautions to prevent refrigerant release or electrical hazards.
If your old outdoor unit sat on a concrete pad, we’ll remove and haul that away too, or prepare the site for a new pad if needed. We protect your driveway, gardens, and lawn during this process.
We position the new outdoor condenser on a level, stable surface (new pad if needed) and run new copper refrigerant lines and electrical wiring into your home. The indoor air handler or coil is positioned in your attic, basement, or utility closet — wherever your ducts already run. This is the most technical part of the installation: we make permanent, leak-proof refrigerant line connections, verify proper insulation to prevent condensation loss, and check every joint for leaks using nitrogen pressure testing. Incorrect line sizing or poor connections are common reasons for systems to fail prematurely — we do this right the first time.
Condensate (water that drains from the cooling coil) must flow downhill to a drain or exterior discharge. We slope all tubing and condensate lines correctly so water never backs up into your home.
Before we leave, the system is powered up, cycled through cooling modes, and tested for proper airflow and temperature differential across your home. We measure the refrigerant superheat and subcooling to verify the charge is exact — too little refrigerant and the system won’t cool; too much and you’ll damage the compressor. We also measure airflow at each vent to confirm balanced cooling throughout your home.
